The brief: Set beside a  lake in Chelwood Gate, the client wanted to create a place to work, unwind and reset without ever leaving their property. The brief called for a spacious garden office with a full kitchen, bathroom and sauna, all designed to take in the extraordinary views while feeling discreetly and elegantly integrated into the landscape.

Interior: Inside, the cabin delivers the comfort of a fully equipped studio with the calm atmosphere of a private hideaway. The generous office area provides ample room to work and think, framed by glazing on three sides that brings the outdoors into the space. A compact, fully fitted kitchen supports long working days, while the bathroom and dedicated sauna offer a spa-like retreat just steps away. Smart home features and a strong internet connection ensure the space functions effortlessly as a true work-from-home environment.

Exterior: Stretching 16 metres in length and nearly 7 metres in width, the cabin commands its position on the water’s edge without overwhelming it. A deep roof overhang wraps around all three sides, forming a sheltered veranda that works beautifully with the integrated decking to create an outdoor space enjoyable year-round. Timber steps on either side lead to and from the cabin, while a timber balustrade encloses the platform with warmth and subtlety, helping the building sit gently in its natural setting.

The result: The finished cabin is a blend of practicality, luxury and calm. Equally suited to focused work and quiet restoration, it offers a place where daily life can slow down without losing connection or comfort. With its thoughtful layout, sheltered outdoor spaces and uninterrupted views across the lake, the cabin feels less like an addition to the garden and more like a self-contained sanctuary.
