The brief: The client, a talented ceramic artist, wanted a dedicated workspace at the end of the garden. The aim was to create a simple, modern building with clean lines, generous natural light and a layout that would support focused creativity.

Interior: The studio is bright, warm and intentionally minimal. Underfloor heating ensures year-round comfort, while the white interior framing keeps the atmosphere light and neutral, as an ideal backdrop for clay, glazes and works in progress. A large skylight draws soft daylight from above, complemented by a tilt-and-turn window that offers both ventilation and a framed view of the garden, alongside a large set of sliding doors.

Exterior: The building’s exterior is defined by its simplicity. Three sides are wrapped in horizontal Cedar cladding, adding natural warmth and texture, while the rear elevation is finished with a discreet corrugated metal board for practical durability. A very slim, almost invisible roof trim gives the structure a refined, contemporary edge. Anthracite frames on the door and window contrast beautifully with the timber facade, keeping the overall aesthetic crisp and modern.

The result: The completed studio feels peaceful, precise and beautifully balanced.Its restraint is its strength: clean lines, honest materials and thoughtful detailing come together to create a workshop that feels both inspiring and entirely at home.
