The brief: After their three boys had grown up, the family no longer needed the large open football pitch in their garden. They wanted to create a new space that would enhance family life, provide shelter from the sun and rain, and complement the garden aesthetically. The goal was to design a multifunctional summerhouse that could be enjoyed year-round and to create a seamless connection with the outdoor areas.

Interior: The main summerhouse measures approximately 6m x 3m. Inside, the space features white walls and ceiling, with light oak-coloured laminate flooring that adds warmth and brightness. Two large front-facing windows and a French door provide natural light and views of the garden, while a tilt-and-turn window on the right side allows for cross-ventilation. The interior is kept cool on hot days, and warm on cold ones, thanks to the addition of a sedum green roof that provides additional insulation.

Exterior: The summerhouse is designed to extend beyond its main footprint, with a roof overhang at the front and a further extension to the side, creating a covered outdoor area perfect for year-round use. Timber cladding and support beams add a natural, contemporary aesthetic, while the decking wraps around the building, creating an inviting transition from indoors to out.

The result: This summerhouse transforms the garden into a family-focused space, offering indoor comfort and a versatile outdoor area. As the family shared, the new space has enriched daily life, providing a place for relaxation, play, and enjoyment in all seasons.
