HELLO, IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU!

Hello, we are Ivana and Lukas, the duo behind “A Room in the Garden” – creating outdoor living spaces with love, imagination, and precision.

We met in 2015, bonding over a shared passion for beauty, quality, and innovation. After renovating our own outdoor space we received a great response from friends. And A Room in the Garden was born.

With a Fashion degree from Florence, Ivana lends aesthetic flair and considers lifestyle needs, while Lukas, with his degree in architecture from Warsaw, grounds our gardens and buildings with clean Polish contemporary lines. Our complementary skill set and focus on client collaboration enable us to bring your perfect garden room to life.

Our goal is simple – functional spaces alive with personality.

We sincerely enjoy realizing outdoor visions and would be delighted to make your garden dreams a reality. Please reach out to discuss your vision!

OUR A ROOM IN THE GARDEN STORY

It began with a garden – an overgrown, forgotten patch behind our flat in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex.

Unusually for a first-floor flat, we had a good-sized outdoor space, but for years it sat unused. The grass grew tall, the little shed in the corner was overflowing, and the garden had become more of a burden than a joy.

One day, we decided to change that. We cleared everything out and began planning what we called our “grand garden design.” Once the space was open, we realised just how much potential it had and that we needed a proper garden building to keep it practical and tidy.

The second image shows a partially built fence with equipment in use. The third image displays the finished fence in a neat yard. - a room in the garden

We started looking for the perfect shed, but nothing we found quite fit.

Some were too small, others too large. The doors opened the wrong way, or the roof wasn’t right. Everything felt like a compromise. So, we decided to design our own.

Lukas drew on his background in architecture and construction, while my own eye for design and sense of practicality helped shape the details. We explored endless variations, changing the size, materials, layout, and finishes, until we created something that was exactly what we wanted.

Three people are seen constructing a wooden shed. One is holding a plank while another nails it, with a third person watching. In the middle, the project shows more progress, with someone working on the roof. Lastly, about to finish, a person is sawing wood beside the mostly completed shed. - a room in the garden

Then came the exciting part: building it.

Before long, our perfect garden room stood exactly as we had imagined it.

A few evenings later, sitting on the new decking with a glass of wine, admiring the result, Lukas laughed and said, “We should quit everything and start a company – bespoke garden rooms, offices, summer houses…”

We looked at each other, and something just clicked.

It didn’t sound like a joke anymore – it sounded like the start of something new.

And that’s how A Room in the Garden was born.
A simple idea, born out of our own need, that grew into a business creating beautiful, functional spaces for others to enjoy.
