PROJECT DETAILS

The brief: Set in Shoreham-by-Sea, this project was led by a client who wanted a calm, personal space away from the demands of family life – somewhere to enjoy her hobbies, host friends, and simply unwind. The requirement was to create the largest possible summerhouse within the width of the garden, incorporate large glazing, and keep the design within a careful budget.



Interior: Inside, the room feels open and airy with pale grey flooring and white window and door frames enhance the sense of openness. Full-width bi-folding doors blur the boundary between indoors and garden when fully opened. The layout is simple, functional and flexible, giving the client freedom to use the space as a creative studio, a social spot, or a quiet escape.



Exterior: Externally, the summerhouse stretches across the entire back boundary, with its side walls positioned just 5cm from the fence to maximise internal space. A slim side window brings in additional light, while a rear access door leads to a useful storage area behind the building. A full-width decking step completes the building, creating a welcoming threshold and grounding the whole design neatly into the garden.



The result: The finished summerhouse is spacious, inviting and thoughtfully practical. It feels completely at home in the landscape, enhancing the garden without overwhelming it.  Most importantly, the client offered the best compliment we could hope for: “It looks like it has always been there.”
